Two hospitals partner up to provide specialized pediatric care at new clinic

IDAHO FALL — A new pediatric specialty center will open Monday in the hopes of providing additional convenience to patients in the area.

“Study after study has shown that if people can get healthcare closer to home, they not only have better outcomes, but also feel better. Traveling can take a lot out of you when you need that special care. So the fact that people can get that specialized care closer to home means we will hopefully have better outcomes and happier patients,” said Glen Beeby, a spokesperson for Intermountain Healthcare’s Primary Children’s Hospital.

Primary Children’s Hospital, located in Salt Lake City, partners with Idaho Falls Community Hospital to provide specialized pediatric care to children in Idaho. On Monday, primary pediatricians will begin providing outpatient cardiology services at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center, located at 2330 Desoto Street in Idaho Falls.

“This partnership is exciting because for decades Intermountain Primary doctors have been serving this area and have come (from Salt Lake) to see patients, but they haven’t always had the capacity to take on new patients, so this new partnership will help us not only allow you to see new people, but also to expand,” explains Beeby.

In the past, patients in the area could go to the doctors at Primary Children’s Hospital in an emergency room in Idaho Falls or to Salt Lake City.

Now that the clinic opens in Idaho Falls, it will offer a new space with six patient rooms. Each room has a painted mural inside.

“Each room has a different theme. We want to make it as comfortable and inviting as possible,” said Brian Ziel, director of marketing at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.

Primary Children’s will expand its local services to include orthopedics, urology and some same-day surgeries by the end of 2022.

“For us, the best part is the same-day surgeries, so instead of a family having to travel to Salt Lake, an over three-hour trek just to get the same-day surgery, the surgeons can come here They will be able to do the surgery at the Idaho Falls Community Hospital that we work with and then the kids can go home and the best part is they can do their aftercare here as well,” Beeby said.

In 2020, Primary Children’s provided care and life-saving treatment to more than 4,000 children in Idaho.

“Partnering with Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital seemed like a natural fit for Idaho Falls Community Hospital,” Casey Jackman, Chief Operations Officer at Idaho Falls Community Hospital, said in a press release. “Primary Children’s has been providing care to children in southeastern Idaho for decades. Working with such a high-quality healthcare system demonstrates our commitment to the community.”

According to a press release, “This primary pediatric hospital care network is part of Intermountain Healthcare’s commitment to create the national pediatric health system. This multifaceted plan and the investment of at least $500 million in children’s health will be shared by Intermountain Healthcare and community philanthropic support through an emerging campaign organized by Intermountain Foundation. This network extends the reach of the high standard of pediatric care for primary children, to ensure that every child has access to the right care in the right place at the right time.”
