1 killed in shooting on west side of Indianapolis; Police deploy taser to apprehend person of interest
INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was killed in a shooting on the west side of Indianapolis Saturday night.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the intersection of Chadbourne Drive and West St. Clair Street — which is located off of North Girls School Road — around 8:15 p.m. to investigate a shooting. Dispatchers told police they could hear what sounded like a domestic disturbance unfolding in the background of the calls they received about the shooting.

When police arrived at the scene, they located an adult female with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle. IMPD confirmed that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police reported that they detained a male person of interest about a block away from the shooting scene. Law enforcement deployed a taser in the process of apprehending the person of interest.
IMPD’s victims assistance unit and a chaplain responded to the shooting scene. Detectives do not believe the shooting poses any ongoing threat to the community.
During a media briefing, IMPD Night Watch Captain Rob Rider said domestic violence situations like the one that unfolded Saturday night are dangerous for all parties involved in them, including police.
“Any time there’s a domestic-related incident, it’s one of the most dangerous an officer can go into,” Rider said. “There’s a lot of emotion, there’s a lot of passion, a lot of things that kind of are mixed in. And unfortunately, things explode sometimes. People make bad decisions. Unfortunately, that’s what occurred tonight.”
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
