Alex Palou talks Sonsio Grand Prix, IndyCar driver fitness expo

INDIANAPOLIS — Three-time IndyCar Series Champion Alex Palou spoke with FOX59/CBS4’s Hannah Follman on Monday.

During the interview, Palou discussed his win at the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix on Sunday. Palou led the rest of the field by more than 16 seconds when the checkered flag flew.

“It was an amazing weekend we had at (Barber Motorsports Park),” Palou said. “It’s just an amazing car. Strategy worked perfectly for us. Another win for the season. It’s been an amazing start of the season. Amazing way to kick of the month of May, and yeah, excited for the next couple of races.”

So far this season, Palou has won three times. Palou’s other two wins came at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida and the Thermal Club IndyCar Grand Prix in California.

Despite the success he has had, Palou is still focused on future races, including this Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.

“I mean, we won here last year, so we want to try to be at the same level as we were last year,” said Palou, who won the 2024 Sonsio Grand Prix. “It’s really tough, the competition here at the Indy road course. I think just because it’s such a cool track, and it’s super smooth. So, everybody, all the competition, is super close, which makes is super exciting, but at the same time, hard. So, we’re going to try do the same as we did last year.”

During his interview with Follman, Palou also talked about the event he attended on Tuesday — the IndyCar driver fitness expo at IMS.

“We’re doing great,” Palou said. “Learning a little bit about the fitness world again and just getting excited for the month of May. This place doesn’t looks as it’s gonna look on race day, but it’s still special to be here.”

The Sonsio Grand Prix will air on FOX59 at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. More of FOX59/CBS4’s Indy 500 coverage is available here.
