Amazon workers don PJs to aid kids cancer cause

Employees at Amazon’s Ravenhall Fulfillment Center, Australia, have helped raise money and raise awareness for children battling cancer by wearing their pajamas to work.

The workers recently donned pajamas as part of the annual Amazon Goes Gold (AGG) PJammin’ initiative to support the hundreds of Australian children diagnosed with cancer each year.

Amazon Australia donated $30,000 to The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Foundation as part of the day, and also provided activity bags with handwritten notes from the team to entertain children currently in the oncology ward.

Inbound Stow assistant Sanda said that while wearing pajamas to work was a little new, the reality for the thousands of Australians who battle cancer every day from their hospital beds is quite serious.

“I feel privileged to join my colleagues in raising money for childhood cancer and I am incredibly proud to be part of a team that is making a difference.”

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death from childhood illness in many countries, with more than 750 children aged 0 to 14 in Australia being diagnosed with cancer each year.

Amazon Australia’s latest donation is over $100,000, the amount it will donate this year to fund childhood cancer research and support programs in children’s hospitals.

Operations Director Craig Fuller said that while pajamas have increasingly made their way into virtual offices over the past 18 months, it’s important to remember that for years these have been the battle uniform of children battling cancer during their treatment and recovery.

“At Amazon, we are proud to wear our pajamas in our facilities across the country to stand in unity with these children and their families,” he said.

“We hope to raise not only much-needed funds and awareness, but also showcase the incredible work being done by so many organizations to increase survival rates and find cures for childhood cancer.”

RCH Foundation chief executive Sue Hunt said the foundation is grateful for Amazon Australia’s continued support through the Amazon Goes Gold initiative.

“The Amazon Australia team’s generosity in supporting pediatric cancer research will truly change the lives of some of the hospital’s sickest children.”
