WESTFIELD, Ind. — In just a few days, some of the top golfers in the world will be playing at The Club in Chatham Hills.
This isn’t the first time Hamilton County will be in the spotlight for sports.
“Here in Hamilton County, we’re starting to see a lot, almost every sport,” said Westfield Mayor Scott Willis. “We’re finding minor league teams and opportunities for fans to catch a game.”
Along with the LIV Golf Tournament in Westfield, Colts camp is ongoing in Grand Park ahead of the season.
The 400-acre sports complex is also the home of the Indy Eleven training center. The venue will soon hit the gas on motor sports with Ed Carpenter Racing moving in.
“It is truly becoming an ecosystem for sports,” said Willis.
To the west, the Noblesville Boom is months out from the first game inside their brand-new facility, The Arena at Innovation Mile. The large professional sports venues have drawn in big names to the area.
“I think that whether it be the Pacers or others that have called Hamilton County home, they see the population growth in Hamilton County. They see the infrastructure investments that we’ve made,” said Chris Jensen, the mayor of the City of Noblesville.
Just a few miles south of the arena, Fishers has quite the roundup of minor league sports teams, with Indy Ignite, Fishers Fuel and Fishers Freight all under one roof.
The county believes that the push for more athletics in the area will only continue.
“I think the building blocks are here. We have world-class amenities. We have a lot of great opportunities on the culinary scene, on the entertainment scene and I think just the quality of life here,” said Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness.
Nearly 20,000 sports enthusiasts are expected to attend the three-day LIV Golf tournament and county leaders hope they’ll be back for other sporting events.
“I think people are starting to see that there’s a large population here that really do want to go see and be a part of athletic opportunities and that’s where you’re seeing,” said Fadness. “These events really start to flourish here in Hamilton County.”
