Boilermakers clinch share of Big Ten title in 80-74 win over Michigan State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue men’s basketball has cut down the nets on their own floor once again. The Boilermakers beat Michigan State 80-74 Saturday night and clinched at least a share of their 26th Big Ten championship in the process.

Reigning national player of the year Zach Edey racked up 32 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Sophomore guards Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer added 23 points and 15 points, respectively.

The Spartans stayed in the game for the entirety of the 40 minutes. Purdue only led by three at halftime, and had to fight off Michigan State down the stretch.

Michigan State freshman Xavier Booker, an Indianapolis native and Cathedral graduate, added 11 points for the Spartans in the loss.

Purdue visits Illinois on Tuesday, March 5th. If the Boilermakers beat the Illini, they will claim sole possession of the 2023-24 regular season Big Ten Championship.
