Cool, cloudy and breezy day ahead

It is a cool and breezy morning across central Indiana. Temperatures have dropped into the mid-40s throughout the state and there is a wind chill factor with the sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph. Wind gusts may still peak around 30 mph at times today. Wind chill may drop into the upper 30s and lower 40 this morning, so a heavier jacket will be necessary for kids at the bus stop.

Mainly dry conditions are expected throughout the day, but it will remain breezy with cooler temperatures. With a high set for 55 degrees in Indianapolis, it will be the coolest day since May 4 when the city reached a high of 51 degrees. May 22 was the last time Indy saw a high in the 50s (High: 59°). The area will see mostly cloudy skies in the morning and afternoon due to an upper-level low hovering over the Great Lakes.

Temperatures will remain below average for the rest of the workweek. Skies will become mostly clear early Thursday morning and Friday. The clear skies will help morning lows drop sharply into the mid-30s throughout the area. You will need to be prepared for frosty conditions early Thursday and Friday due to chilly temperatures and lighter winds. Highs will reach the upper 50s and lower 60s through the weekend.

Central Indiana will stay dry through the weekend. Another wave of activity arrives on Monday, and the coverage will be spotty throughout the day, mainly south of Indianapolis.
