Dr. Robert Flood Joins Nicklaus Children’s Health System as Chief of Emergency Medicine

dr. Robert Flood has been appointed chief of emergency medicine at Nicklaus Children’s Health System, responsible for overseeing the emergency department at Nicklaus Children’s main campus and for the Nicklaus Children physician teams that provide emergency services at collaborative hospitals in South Florida.

dr. Flood comes to Nicklaus Children’s of the Department of Pediatrics at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he was a professor of pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine, and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, where he led division director of pediatric emergency medicine .

In addition to leading emergency services at Nicklaus Children’s main campus near Coral Gables, he will also be responsible for Nicklaus Children’s emergency medicine physicians who provide care in the emergency departments at Baptist Hospital, Homestead Hospital and the Mastroianni Family Pediatric Emergency Department at Jupiter Medical Center.

dr. Flood received his medical degree from the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami and then completed a combined residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he also served as chief physician of pediatrics. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s emergency department provides care for more than 90,000 patient visits per year and has a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained treating pediatric specialists and subspecialists available 24 hours a day. The emergency department is also home to the Miguel “Mike” B. Fernandez Family Pediatric Trauma Center, the only freestanding Level I pediatric trauma center in South Florida.
