INDIANAPOLIS – The Fever are onto Game 2 in the first round of the WNBA playoffs after losing 68-80 on Sunday against the Atlanta Dream.
“Oh, such an unfortunate loss,” said one fan, Alex Cook. “I have faith that when they get home, the Fever fans and the Pacer fans are so great here. I think we’re going to carry to a win.”
The 12-point loss in Game 1 has fans rooting for redemption on Tuesday night. The team has proven its resiliency time and time again this season, with five players facing injuries including Caitlin Clark.
“We’ve had so many players out this season, and they’re just the little team that could. I’m so proud that they’ve made it this far,” said Cook.
“The team has overcome so much adversity to make the playoffs, and now having the chance to play in front of the Fever faithful, these amazing fans who helped to propel the team all season long. It should be really special,” said Fever radio broadcaster, Josh Nolan.
Nolan said he believes this is where the team will heat up with the support from fans inside the fieldhouse.
“Over the course of the regular season, the Fever were a better team at home, not only by record, but actually, if you look at the stats offensively, the team shot the ball a lot better,” he said.
It’s been nearly a decade since the Fever hosted a playoff game, with the last time being in 2016.
“Obviously, they made it last year and we didn’t get any home games, which was a bummer, but it’s so exciting to be back in the playoffs,” said Cook.
“I’m glad they changed the format this year, where everyone gets a home game, so that’ll be really exciting.”
2015 and 2016 were the last times the Fever had consecutive playoff appearances as well.
