The Department of Health confirms that it has accepted an offer of 50,000 doses of Pfizer pediatric doses for children aged five to 11 years from the government of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
According to Permanent Secretary, Doctor James Fong, their vaccination team is currently discussing further details with counterparts in New Zealand, while efforts are being made to obtain more through other development partners.
He says their school vaccination program is also advancing, as 88% of all individuals over the age of 12 have had two doses of the COVID 19 vaccine.

Dr. Fong also adds that since the lifting of quarantine measures and increased international travel, community and border surveillance screening data continues to report a low positivity rate despite the ongoing pandemic and ongoing evolution of Omicron variants.
He added that they also note the risk of transmission in children under 12 and are exploring the possibility of having children under 12 also undergo pre-departure testing before traveling to Fiji.
Currently, inbound travelers aged 12 years and over must provide proof of a pre-booked and pre-paid rapid antigen test, which must be performed after 48 hours, but before 72 hours of arrival in Fiji.
Doctor Fong says there will be waivers for those who have tested positive and recovered from COVID-19 within 30 days of travel and have fit-to-fly certificates.
Once in Fiji, if you fail to comply with the arrival test, you will be fined $1000.
Dr. Fong stressed that the measures that will be continued in terms of prevention are the promotion of vaccination, personal COVID-safe hygiene habits and measures for workplace ventilation and air purification.
