Hot and humid holiday weekend in central Indiana
Smoky skies linger into Saturday morning
In the wake of the fireworks all across central Indiana on Friday night, that smoke created hazy conditions being trapped near the surface. Checking Airnow.gov shows that Air Quality was very unhealthy this morning. Before sunrise Saturday, it was some of the worst air quality in the world. But as the sun comes up, that smoke will gradually mix out.

Hot and humid Saturday-Sunday
However, an Air Quality Alert for Indianapolis will be in place all day Saturday. AQI values will be in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range. If you have upper respiratory issues, such as asthma, limit time outside. If you are going to be outside in general, be sure to stay hydrated and have sunblock handy! It’s going to be hot and modestly humid. Highs will be around 90° and heat index values will be a touch higher.

Much of the same continues on Sunday. However, heat index values will likely be a touch higher than Saturday. Some spots then could see values approach or even hit 100° for what it will feel like. After that, the hot dome will keep the warmer air and humidity around into the work week. .

Next week, dry hours are promised each day but a few storm chances exist starting late Sunday. The difference compared to the last hot dome is that the forecast high temperatures won’t be as high. Expect highs in the mid-to-upper 80s but with the muggy dew points sticking around through at least Thursday next week.
