IMPD: 2 arrested in relation to 2 separate September shootings
INDIANAPOLIS — Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recently released information on two arrests in separate shootings that occurred in September.
According to a post on IMPD’s social media, detectives with the U.S. Marshals Task Force first arrested 31-year-old Dennis Kendall in relation to a shooting that left one man critically injured on the near southwest side of Indianapolis.
On Sept. 15, officers with IMPD’s Southwest District responded to the 2100 block of Wilkins Street. When they arrived, they reportedly found a man in the road with a gunshot wound.

The post read that another man, later identified as Kendall, was attempting to render medical aid to the man who was shot. During the investigation, Kendall, who was armed with a gun at the time, was “found to be a prohibited person and was placed under arrest for unlawful carrying of a handgun.”
As the investigation continued, the department said in the post that Kendall was later identified as the alleged shooter in this case. Kendall was taken into custody on Sunday on the following charges:
- One count of aggravated battery – results in loss or impairment of a bodily function, a Level 3 felony
- One count of intimidation, where the defendant draws or uses a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony
- One count of pointing a firearm at another, a Level 6 felony
- Two additional weapons-related misdemeanors.
Court documents indicate that Kendall’s initial hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning in Marion County court.
