INDIANAPOLIS — Are Indianapolis and Fort Wayne becoming popular cities for young professionals to move to?
According to LinkedIn, both cities are favorable spots for people looking to advance their careers. Indianapolis and Fort Wayne appeared on the job site’s list of “cities on the rise.”
LinkedIn generated the list with labor market data it gathered from its users. LinkedIn examined job postings and talent migration when creating the list.
Indianapolis — and the surrounding metro area — appeared at No. 14 on the 25-city list. According to LinkedIn, Indianapolis made the list because “billions of dollars in construction projects underway are helping revitalize downtown and prompt an economic ripple effect that’s fueling record tourism and investments from major pharmaceutical manufacturers and logistics companies.”
LinkedIn’s report indicates that Indy’s top hiring industries are manufacturing and health care. The site listed Eli Lilly and Company, Indiana University Health and Cummins as the area’s top employers.
LinkedIn reported that Hoosiers’ average income in the Indy metro area is $72,500. The site also listed the average area home price at $425,915.
LinkedIn dubbed “community staples — like churches and town halls” Indy’s hotspots. The site called the public spaces “gathering spots for Indy residents.”
Fort Wayne was No. 24 on LinkedIn’s list. LinkedIn called Fort Wayne a “city on the rise” because “a wave of new investments in data centers and tech infrastructure, coupled with affordable housing and a lower cost of living, are drawing professional to Indiana’s second-largest city.”
Like Indianapolis, Fort Wayne’s top hiring industries are manufacturing and healthcare, according to LinkedIn. Per LinkedIn, the Fort Wayne area’s top employers are Parkview Health, Purdue University-Fort Wayne and Sweetwater.
LinkedIn indicated that an average Hoosier in Fort Wayne likely has a salary of around $60,360. The site lists the average area home price as $385,955.
LinkedIn’s report calls bars Fort Wayne’s local hotspots. The list says “Work nights don’t stop locals from making the most of their day, with residents often heading to bars and restaurants on weeknights.”
Five of the metro areas that made LinkedIn’s list are in the Midwest, including Grand Rapids, Michigan; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Kansas City, Missouri.
