Indianapolis woman killed in crash on Interstate 65 in Clark County

CLARK COUNTY, Ind. — An Indianapolis woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 65 in Clark County on Monday.

According to a press release, personnel with the Indiana State Police, Clark County Sheriff’s Department, Sellersburg Police Department and Tri-Township Fire and Rescue responded to a crash on I-65 northbound around 5:30 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, which was located near interstate mile marker 10, they found two crashed vehicles.

After an investigation, police determined the driver of a gray 2018 Ford F-150 was travelling northbound in the center lane of I-65 before the crash happened. The crash occurred when the driver of the Ford attempted to merge from the center lane into the left lane of the interstate.

Per ISP, upon merging into the left lane of I-65, the driver of the F-150 struck a blue 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. After the collision, both vehicles spun into the median between the northbound and southbound lanes of the interstate.

The F-150 rolled over during the crash and came to rest in the southbound lanes of I-65.

A passenger in the F-150 was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene. ISP identified the decedent as 70-year-old Gloria Jean Jones of Indianapolis.

The F-150’s driver was transported from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed that the driver of the Malibu was not injured in the crash.

Lanes on I-65 northbound and southbound were shut down while police cleaned up and investigated the crash. ISP indicated that troopers left the area around 8:30 p.m., nearly three hours after they first responded to the crash.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the crash had been made available.
