INDOT: Monroe County vehicle crash results in 2 fatalities
MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Two people are dead following a crash in Monroe County on Friday night.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s office, around 5:18 p.m., two cars collided in a head-on crash. One driver was found dead at the scene, and the other was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where they later died.
According to INDOT’s Traffic Management Notification Center, the wreck took place shortly after 6 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 46 and Stinesville Road. INDOT has reported that all lanes are still closed. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department was the first on the scene, according to INDOT.
The Monroe County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the deceased individuals once the next of kin arrangements are made.
As of 7:55 p.m., the crash site is still being cleared while police are directing traffic. The crash is still under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
