Jawaher Al Qasimi allocates AED6 million for medication needs of 660 young cancer patients in Lebanon – Lebanon

SHARJAH, Sept. 21, 2021 (WAM) — HH Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of the ruler of Sharjah, chairman of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, has allocated AED 6 million in medicines are being shipped from the UAE to support young cancer patients at the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL), in response to the hardships affecting all sectors in the country, especially the health sector.

TBHF, the Sharjah-based global humanitarian organization, will mobilize the funds to ship essential medicines to Lebanon in conjunction with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and CCCL.

Prior to the announcement of the TBHF initiative, CCCL conducted a thorough needs assessment to identify the required baseline and priority medications, and allocated funds to meet the medication needs of all 660 children and adolescents over a one-year period to ensure ensure continuity of treatment.

These new efforts by TBHF, made under the guidance of Sheikha Jawaher, come under Sharjah’s ‘Salam Beirut’ campaign – an emergency relief and relief campaign launched by Sheikha Jawaher in August 2020 after the tragic explosion in Port Beirut. The campaign promotes the vision of HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to assist nations in their time of need.

Sheikha Jawaher reaffirmed the strong solidarity of TBHF and the Emirati community with the Lebanese people as they face escalating challenges due to a lack of essential supplies of food, medicine and other essentials. Sheikha Jawaher pointed out that the bond between the people of this region is unbreakable.

She said: “Our solidarity with the Lebanese community remains strong as ever; in line with our ideals of friendship and humanity. Today we reaffirm that we feel the pain of every patient in Lebanon, and that every child in need has one of our own. children. We will always be there for anyone who needs a helping hand.”

“To fulfill the goals of TBHF’s Salam Beirut campaign, this AED 6 million contribution to the Lebanese healthcare sector is primarily aimed at helping young cancer patients. Cancer takes a huge emotional and financial toll on families, and when it comes to Lebanon’s current socio-economic state, international humanitarian action becomes an immediate necessity,” said Sheikha Jawaher.

Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi has appealed to public and private entities as well as individuals and has appealed for their generosity and emphasizes that humanitarian action is a long-term investment with beneficial returns.

Hana Chaar Choueib, CCCL general manager and board member of the Union of International Cancer Control, thanked HH Sheikha Jawaher and HH Dr. Sheikh Sultan for their solidarity and generous support to Lebanon over the years.
