Kokomo man dies after police respond to crash and find him shot

KOKOMO, Ind. — Police are investigating after Kokomo police officers arrived at the scene of a crash and discovered that the driver was shot. He later died from his injuries.

According to the Kokomo Police Department, officers were called to the area of Ohio Street and Richmond at approximately 3:07 p.m. on Sunday in response to a crash.

Officers reported arriving on scene and finding a red Pontiac Vibe crashed into a parked semi-trailer. Police said several occupants were inside the vehicle and two managed to exit under their own power.

The driver, however, was trapped inside the vehicle and found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. The driver — identified as 21-year-old Marshon Burch of Kokomo — was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators determined that Burch was shot prior to the collision but do not know any further details about the shooting or the crash.

Police said the two other occupants in the Pontiac only sustained minor injuries but are not cooperating with the police investigation into Burch’s death.
