Laughter is the best medicine: Tracy Morgan comedy show will benefit Pediatric Cancer Center at SIUH

STATEN ISLAND, NY – 30 Rock star and SNL alumnus Tracy Morgan will host an entertaining evening of comedy and cocktails to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Center at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH).

The event will take place on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the St. George Theater. Doors open at 7pm

The star of “The Last OG” and two-time Emmy nominee, Morgan will perform a unique stand-up comedy routine for a fun evening of laughter. As one of the most respected comics in the industry with an extensive background in television, films and animation, Morgan’s stand-up comedy has appeared on numerous tours and festivals nationally and internationally.

“This event shows the true heart of philanthropy,” said Dr. Brahim Ardolic, Executive Director of SIUH. “We are deeply grateful for Tracy Morgan’s commitment to ensuring we have state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment. By doing something he is passionate about, his efforts will impact hundreds and hundreds of children on Staten Island.”

Morgan said his own accident and medical problems taught him the importance of helping health organizations and their suppliers. “Giving back to the community means helping others in their fight against disease,” he said.

Ardolic said he is a huge Morgan fan.

“I’m extremely excited to participate in this event – not just for charity,” said Ardolic.

In a municipality where cancer is the second leading cause of death, the 40,000 square foot cancer center is to streamline services such as cancer screening and treatment under one roof. Patients may undergo a variety of cancer treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

“I met a child who had cancer and learned all about her story — it changed me forever,” Morgan said. “I will do what I can to support these kinds of programs.”

dr. Eleny Romano-Sirakis, director of pediatric hematology-oncology, said: “We are building a center here to advance medical treatment with advanced research and innovative clinical cancer trials for our patients. Our goal is that patients with cancer should never feel like they have to leave Staten Island.”
