Mid-South Pediatricians push for COVID-19 vaccines for ages 12-17

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — On Thursday morning, pediatricians in the Memphis region again called on parents and youth to get vaccinated if they haven’t already rolled up their sleeves.

A doctor from Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital said the age group of 12 to 17 years eligible for vaccination remains a high priority as children get sicker from the Delta variant.

In recent weeks, there were also more pediatric cases in Shelby County than the cases in other adult age groups.

“We may be done with COVID, but COVID is not done with us. These variants that keep popping up and mutations make it very difficult. And until we just eradicate or stamp it as best we can, we are going to continue to have problems” said Dr. Cynthia Cross of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.

Friday morning, the city of Memphis is hosting a virtual symposium to inform parents and encourage young people to get vaccinated. It will be streamed HERE on YouTube from 9:01am
