Not as hot Saturday but humidity sticks around in central Indiana

As you get the day started Saturday, it is still muggy but not as hot compared to the last few mornings. A few hometowns saw some lingering showers but these will get out of here as the morning progresses.

The thing we will be monitoring is the cloud cover. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy across central Indiana for the first time in more than a week. Because of that, temperatures will back off slightly with most staying in the 80s for highs. A few spots could reach 90° but those will be fewer. If clouds were to break, that would prompt temperatures to rise quickly. While temperatures will be slightly lower, the humidity sticks around but no widespread 100°+ heat indices will occur.

If Indianapolis doesn’t hit 90° Saturday, that will officially end our heat streak which hit seven days on Friday. The Circle City hasn’t seen a heat wave longer than seven days in 13 years (July 2012/17 days). Friday was the warmest June 26th in 39 years. June 21–27, 2025 now ranks as the hottest stretch on record (average temperature) for those dates in our lifetime in Indianapolis. The last time it was this hot in that date range? We go back 111 YEARS to June 21–26, 1914.

A few showers are possible in the afternoon with the peak heating of the day. The activity will be very isolated. Most will remain dry but don’t be surprised if you do encounter a shower or two in the afternoon or early evening before sunset.

Sunday will start foggy before more rain arrives in the afternoon. It will be the same in coverage as Saturday. Monday comes with the highest rain coverage in the forecast ahead of a cold front. That front will bring the much-needed relief from the long-standing mugginess central Indiana has dealt with since last weekend.

Tuesday-Thursday next week will feel much better all around. Temperatures will be more seasonal in the mid-80s. Heading into July 4th, we’ll begin to warm up again and increase humidity levels a bit. There are some stray rain chances but for now, Independence Day looks pretty good!
