Rainey-McCullers School for the Arts raises over $2K for childhood cancer

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Rainey-McCullers School for the Arts has raised more than $2,000 for Childhood Cancer Month.

This comes as 7th grader, Lexy McRae, challenged the National Junior Honor Society and called for a homeroom contest to raise funds.

McRae was battling osteosarcoma, and she joined an organization called “Rally” to hold a homeroom competition to raise funds.

Math teacher Kelly Taylor and Lexi Mcrae spoke to us about the amazing turnout.

“It’s nice to know that our kids are just being selfless and giving everything they have,” said Taylor, sponsor of the National Honor Society.

“It’s amazing what people and children can do by donating their allowance, their money and everything they own to help other children they probably don’t know, but it warms your heart,” McRae said.

Children gave money they had in their pockets and the staff also in support of McRae. The school held a celebration in the auditorium this afternoon to announce the total amount.
